G V Portus or 'Jerry' as he was known to his friends.
Born in Morpeth Australia 7th June 1883.
Died in Austalia 15th June 1954.
Played fly-half for Blackheath and England against Ireland and France in 1908. Also an Australian selector.
An autobiography exist: Melbourne University Press 1953 which is a good story of a varied career of an Australian academic.
